Was- It's like. You know how the Prophet SAW felt like committing suicide after the first revelation and he thought Allah SWT had abandoned him. All the prophets AS went through trials where they realised that as humans we all have faults, a dark side, the capacity to be really bad. And by denying it your whole life and projecting this image of being a great person you're never going to face your greatest fears, your greatest illegitimate desires, the darkness within our souls that tests us every day. You need to face that before you can grow I think.
And yes it's related to the mirror of desire. Harry was so enraptured by a trick of a mirror that he forgot that he had a real cause to fight. Sometimes we want things so badly we lose sight of the Real Reason.
Hahaha Zesty happy to have ur sporadic visits. I agree with Jung more than I disagree with him. Freud was a druggie :P
MJ yeah fighting voldemort has nothing on being a dad :P
just a point of clarification. The prophet (pbuh) did think about suicide, but it wasnt after the first revelation. He received a few and then after that nothing came for a while. between 3 and 12 months according to different tradition.
Even though he didnt attempt suicide, he felt like throwing himself of a mountain because as you said, he felt that Allah had abondoned him.
Then Surah Ad Duha was revealed to him and he felt awesome again. True Story :)
I see Emmy got there before me :-P thanks, i was starting to hyperventilate thinking i had been reading all the wrong seerahs :-P
Nooj- i quite like Jung too. Thing with Freud is, as Rahila (my best friend) and i used to discuss- his theory is damn good or atleast we can see the appeal and why some people would be drawn to it. Its fair to say that alot of his defense mechanisms (projection, displacement, denial) are concepts that i agree with (and i think the majority of people would). I believe that some of his ideas were just way out and thats why they dont seem so probable to us.
Jung on the other hand was very much a psyche analyst :-D I think he understood that a person has to be taken in their entire element, that the person should be taken as a whole (sounds like Gestalt laws) :-P and that the human mind is full of dynamics. (Im still more of a Carl Rogers fan :-P im a humanist).
Will send you an email later inshaAllah with a link to a blog about Islam and Psychology! Its awesome!
I have a slightly different take on Jungs quote :-) I dont feel its a question of having a dark side or realising youre capable of doing bad in order to be able to grow; i see it as a means of freeing yourself from illusions, from your own demons, from ambiguity in order to liberate yourself from the shackles. I guess in essence we see it in the same way but for me i dont see the unconscious as something totally detrimental or negative. To me, our unconscious protects us but it can also motivate us and inspire us. In the case of Harry- the trick mirror may have clouded him but maybe this delve into the unconscious was neccessary precisely in order to remind him or motivate his real purpose. (Maybe im talking rubbish with regards to Harry potter cos i barely remember any of it hahahah).
Anyway... stop posting things like this.. my mind has been in psychology paradigm ever since!!
6 shared ideas:
That doesn't make sense, please explain. Is it related to the mirror of erised?
